Gingerbread Men Cookies

A sinus infection has kept me home today since I have no voice. So I am working on some school stuff. One thing we are doing this week is making gingerbread cookies in the classroom. I have made a cute recipe to display while making this recipe. I hope to get a chance to create a writing page to go with it too. Lets see how productive I am today. Each month I send home a family project for the students to work on with their parents. They love this. For December we will be decorating a tree using patterns. I found this wonderful idea from here Christmas Tree there is also a printable tree pattern. I cant wait to see how the students do.

MIA...

Sorry its been a VERY LONG time since my last post. Between moving into a new home at the beginning of the school year, my family, and new evaluations at school, to say the least its been a very busy year. Here are some pictures of what we have been doing. (I really need to take more pictures, on the to do list!)

We made chef hats to go along with our FRIDAY FUN DAY! After getting in our tests on Friday, we have a craft and cooking project to go along with our science/ social studies unit.

We made a lifecycle pumpkin craft.

As we were learning about dinosaurs, we got a chance to excavate dinosaur bones. (Yes, those are chocolate chip cookies and toothpicks!) My students worked so quietly and did not want to stop for lunch.
When we talked about living and nonliving things, we used this worksheet (sorry I cant remember which blog it is from. If its yours please let me know) and we went to the playground to record our data.

Thank you for all the great ideas and inspirations. I have became a better teacher because of you all!!

Songs

If you are anything like me, I forget to write down songs I make up and then the next year cant remember the tune of it. My kids would help me make up songs as the year went on and they really loved the songs. I love it when they are taking a test and you see them singing the song in their head. I am sure I have more, but this is all that is coming to my jumbled mind at the time.

Power Towers

Saw this GREAT idea on thegradetwozoo.blogspot.com called Power Towers. Gotta check him out  http://www.teachertipster.com/.  I am so making these Power Towers. I saw some printables and I downloaded but cant remember where the site was. I will load them here and if they are yours please let me know so I can give credit to you. Awesome labels.

Scott Foresman Reading Street

I am working on ideas to go along with our reading series for Literacy Stations. My kiddos love playdough so what better way to practice spelling words than to create them. Here is a playdough mat to go along with Unit 1 Week 1.

We are using I can... statements this year and I thought if each student had their own I can statements on their desk or in a reading folder, I would be able to assess quickly and stamp/ check off what they have accomplished. I can also send this home to show parents what we still need to work on.

What Do Pets Need?

I just finished working on this activity that you could use in a science station. Students have to choose a pet, food, shelter and decide what else is a need for a pet. Then they draw the pictures in the boxes. You may want to print two pages out of the My Pet Needs page so one can be laminated for station use and the other can be copied and written on for assessment/ turn in.
